Hi all!
Friday
and Saturday were long, wonderful days for the PIGHers. Many apologies for our
delayed postings - as always, internet is up and down, and we have been all
over! But here are some short updates, and hopefully longer updates from more
people tomorrow.
On
Friday, we began by presenting all four of our presentations and getting a lot
of really valuable feedback from wonderful scholars in both formal
(presentation) and informal (yummy buffet lunch) settings. Then we went to the
Ndere Cultural Center and watched amazing dancing and singing - we even
participated a little! It was a blast. We felt very relieved for having presented,
and excited and rejuvenated by the expert opinions we are so lucky to
have collected.
Today
we journeyed to Entebbe, a city about an hour drive from Kampala. First, we
visited the Kids of Africa orphanage, which is a beautiful facility with 96
children of all ages. We painted nails, played games, gave hugs, and had a
wonderful time. We drove from there to Garetti’s, a restaurant on the shores of
gorgeous Lake Victoria. After a relaxing lunch, we went to the Entebbe
Botanical Gardens and went on wonderful tours, learning about lots of plants
and animals. One of our favorite memories is when Yuris said “Is that a Kite?”
and Taryn responded with pity in her eyes “No Yuris…that’s a bird”. Get it?
Unfortunately
the web isn’t working at this moment either. But we will post as soon as
possible and later add more stories about our day today, which will involve the
administration of a stroke awareness survey at a hypertension clinic. And
Monday we head out for Queen Elizabeth National Park!

This is all fantastic!! I'm loving all of the pictures- I can't stop smiling! I want to hear more about the presentations!! What kinds of questions did the audience ask? Did you learn anything new from the discussions that followed? You don't have to answer these questions now because I know you're really busy, but make sure each group remembers because I'll want to hear all about it once you guys get back. Once again, I'm really wishing that I could be there with all of you! But the wedding was beautiful and absolutely perfect (I gave a presentation on Friday too! A different kind of presentation though- a Maid of Honor toast to the bride and groom haha) and now I'm on my way to St. Louis to see the baby!
