Hi all!

Today, we toured two TB labs – one in Mulago Hospital, and the other in the Medical School. They had Gene Xpert machines, which we’ve been learning about in class this whole semester. It was incredibly exciting! Later, we went to the Ugandan Crafts Market where we got to practice our bartering and look at the wonderful variety of Ugandan arts.

Then, we returned home and frantically worked on our presentations, and then the three groups (CM, TB, and Brucellosis) that haven’t presented yet gave (very successful!) practice presentations. Tomorrow is our big plenary session, so wish us luck! Here are some reflections on the day and another set of pictures from the last

I got to return to a neighborhood family household and play soccer with Mira, Selam, Paul, Becky, and Allison, so that was quite an amazing experience. And by the end it was quite a side show, there were lots of kids in the alleyway waiting but not ready to play, so maybe every day we’ll get more and more kids to play with us.

Emily bought all of the elephants at the crafts market. There are no more left.

Gene Xpert was cool. Hiking up to Old Mulago was really nice.  Haggling at the craft market was fun.

Seeing Gene Xpert and actually talking to someone who’s been using it and doing studies was really interesting and fascinating. He was very clear. The crafts market was just amazing, I probably bought more than I thought I was going to buy, but I’m still happy, it was all worth it. And then I got to play soccer with some neighborhood kids, which was really fun. And it was really nice to hear people’s presentation and just realize how far we’ve come.
